Laura Bailey

Cofounder | Veterinarian

Dr. Bailey is a licensed veterinarian in Texas and the US Virgin Islands. She has practiced veterinary medicine for over fifteen years. From a young age, she knew she wanted to be a veterinarian and received a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Oklahoma State University. Originally from Levelland, TX, Dr. Bailey graduated from Ross University CVM in 2007. During the first two years of her veterinary career, she worked at several different clinics in Texas, from a small-town local clinic to a high-end AAHA-accredited clinic in Houston and a nationwide corporate hospital.

However, her time at Ross University was calling her back to the Caribbean, and she accepted a position at Island Animal Clinic with Dr. Paul Hess in 2009. During this time, she began assisting the SCAWC with their spay/neuter outreach and was trained by Humane Alliance in High Quality High Volume Spay Neute.

In 2012, Dr. Bailey opened her own boutique clinic from her home on the east end of St. Croix that offered a quiet, relaxed, and personalized experience for her clients and patients. Also, in 2012, Dr. Bailey became the primary vet for SCAWC on a volunteer basis. From 2010 -2023, Dr. Bailey assisted the SCAWC whenever she could and helped other island rescue groups at free or low cost. In 2022, Dr. Bailey “retired” her clinic to accommodate Real Cruzan Cats in an effort to maintain the essential TNVR programs on St. Croix while still making herself available to all non-for-profit animal rescue organizations on St. Croix and serves on the Veterinary Medical Board for the US Virgin Islands

She is also the creator of Dr. Bailey’s Miracle Cream, a versatile all-in-one cream designed to cater to a wide range of animals, including horses, donkeys, goats, dogs, cats, tortoises, ducks, and chickens that she has treated. The cream’s powerful formula comprises natural ingredients like local Moringa oil from St. Croix and other active ingredients. This unique blend allows the cream to effectively treat just about any localized dermatological condition and enhance the wound healing process.

In early 2023, Dr. Bailey approached Dr. Mehalick with the idea of forming STX Vets as she recognized the need for more options in veterinary care on St. Croix as she believes that there is an affordable solution to almost every problem a patient presents with and is committed to providing a spectrum of care that matches our clients’ resources.
